Cards that reportedly WORK w/MiniStumbler 0.4

Questions and configuration information about the MiniStumbler software

What Card works with HP Jornada 568 & Ministumbler 0.4.0

Postby UFOSWORLD » Sun May 02, 2004 2:56 am

Hi,

i am searching for a wlan card that works with my HP Jornada 568 & Ministumbler 0.4.0

1. Question : Are one of the following cards work with Ministumbler 0.4.0 ??

Netgear MA701 CF WLAN Card 802.11b
Linksys WLAN WCF11 Card or WCF12 Card
D-Link DCF-660W/WLAN CF-Card

2. Question:

Did one of the upper cards also work with Netstumbler 0.4.0 ?
Because i wanna buy a laptop in few month and then i will use that card + cf card adapter for pcmcia with my laptop and netstumbler too.

3. Question:
How much can they cost?
i have here an offer for the Netgear Card for 49 Euro on Ebay.
is that expensive ( the card can only 11 Mbit and the new g Version makes 54 Mbit or 108 Mbit.)

thx for the answers.

you can also write me a mail.

I use Japanese edition of WM2003.

WM2003 ROM revision: 1.00.03 JPN

About WLAN
Hardware revision: 6.3
Firmware version: 0.100.5.39
Driver version: 3.2.2.96
Module release date: 02.09.05

MiniStumbler 0.3x didn't work, but 0.4 works well.
I don't know why :p

honestly, all you have to do is search:

http://forums.netstumbler.com/showthread.php?t=10413&highlight=MA701

It's not that hard, I promise. It's like typing a question, but, you simply type it into another box. Really, I jest you not: All the L337 kids are doing it.

D-Link DCF-660W

Postby kiheiman » Wed May 05, 2004 8:24 pm

Mini-stumbler works with a D-Link DCF-660W card in a HP iPaq 2215. Here is what I had to do:

1. Installed the D-link PC2003 driver - minstumbler appeared to work, but was not consistent. There was no D-link wireless utility for the card. I de-installed the PC2003 driver.
2. Installed the D-link PC2002 driver. This also installed the D-Link management utility. Mini-Stumbler operator was flaky - very poor range.
3. Installed the D-Link PC2003 driver on top of the PC2002 driver - used "Repair" function on the install. This kept the D-link management utility and applied the PC2003 driver. Mini-stumbler works good and the range is much better.

The D-link Site Survey Utility does not seem to work at all with either D-Link driver.

D-Link CF Wireless

Postby kiheiman » Wed May 05, 2004 9:44 pm

I guess that I spoke too soon. With a D-link CF card in an iPaq 2215, Mini-stumbler only detects APs that the iPaq is associated with. I was able to confirm this by finding a number of APs with the APBrowser (under D-Link management app), but only my home AP under Mini-Stumbler. Once I hit the "join" command under APBrower for each found AP, then the AP would then show up under Mini-Stumbler.

D-Link CF Card is great.

Postby kiheiman » Fri May 07, 2004 9:12 am

I finally got my D-Link CF card fully working with my iPaq 2215. I had to go into the D-Link management utility, Config, and select "Auto Detect" for the ESSID. All APs now pop up on the screen.

The D-Link card appears to have a very sensitive receiver. On the way to work, I was able to find 100 APs, with my iPaq inside the cab of my truck. I am not sure that I have seen this good of results when using my Orinoco Gold, iPaq 3765, and an external mag mount wireless antenna.

Works pretty well with my Toshiba e740 (integrated 802.11b).

A couple of quirks I noticed (which may not be specific to the e740)... even with the autoconfigure button selected, I still had to manually change my wireless SSID to "ANY" in order to pick up AP's other than my own.

Also, manually setting the scan speed above the midpoint causes some erratic detections when you set the scripting to "No Scripting". At the fastest scan speed with "No Scripting", AP's appear and disappear on every scan.

Dell TrueMobile 1180 Works

Postby djmason9 » Sat May 15, 2004 7:55 am

I have a HP 2215 and a Dell TrueMobile 1180 card. I am using MiniStumbler 4.0 and I am using the Orinoco Drivers. It took me awhile to find these drivers but you can get them here. http://www.noodles4all.com/WiFi/WLCE3074.zip
If you get that card do NOT install the drivers that come with it. You will have to hard boot your PDA to get them off. And they suck anyway. Use the Orinoco drivers they are MUCH better in every way.
Here are some instructions on how to do it

1. Remove Dell TrueMobile CF card from your PPC
2. Uninstall the Dell TrueMobile driver (good luck you may have to hard boot so back up first!)
3. Install orinoco driver onto your PocketPC
4. Insert the CF card into your PPC
5. When prompted with Unrecognized Card, enter WLLUC46.DLL

It works great. I hope this helps others get started easier.

IPaq 3650

Postby micropitt » Sat May 22, 2004 5:09 am

Ministumbler is working great on my IPaq 3650 (CE 3.0/PPC 2000/PPC2002). I'm using the PC Card expansion pack with build in battery and the Alvarion BreezeNet PC-DS.11b card. The driver i'm using is the original Alvarion CE 3.0 driver which is available on Alvarions website. I installed the driver, poped in the card and it worked right away. Battery life is about 24 hours if careful with backlight usage.
I know that the original Orinoco driver also should work with some changes but i didn't fool with it. Alvarions original driver works fine for me.

I have had no luck with Ministumbler 0.4 using the below config. but it works fine with a netgear MA701 card

Hardware Revision : 6.3
Firmware version: 0.100.5.39
Driver Version: 3.2.4.130
Module Release Date: 02.09.05

Has anyone got any ideas as it has been posted that it works with an earlier driver version.
