Extracting info from ministumbler

Postby suemy » Tue Nov 14, 2006 5:09 am

I am doing a Location based application, How can i extract signal strength from ministumbler downloaded on our PDA to be used in the application. In other words, I would like to take the RSSs values generated by the ministumbler, save it on a PDA and send these values to a our server. Also, the retrieved RSS are saved in which format, text or what?

Look at the authors site for the details of the native .ns1 file format.

ns1 file

Postby suemy » Wed Nov 15, 2006 9:16 am

I know it might sound trivial, but it's my first time to use a software to measure RSS and try to integrate it in an application (also im a beginner in programming :o), I have read the blog "ns1 file how to read and write" but still didn't quite understand how can i interface between my application (which is going to be implemented using java) and the ministumbler? i.e. I want my application to constantly request or extract info from ministumbler to use it for postioning purposes, is that possible? and how?

You can't do that with MiniStumbler. AFAIR there isn't any scripting API in MiniStumbler, only in NetStumbler.

MiniStumbler does in fact do scripting.

Scripting in MiniStumbler is done exactly the same as in NetStumbler.
1. Make sure the appropriate engine is on the computer
2. Write a script.
3. Run the script
4. Debug
