The USR5410 802.11g PCMCIA card worked fine in the last version of NS, but isn't recognized in 0.4. No idea why.

problems SMC2835W V1

Postby paulo_andre » Tue Apr 27, 2004 11:45 pm

if the card is not inserted, netstumbler works (obviously). if it's inserted but I'm not connected it crashes netstumbler before the initial screen disappears. if I'm connected it works perfectly, showing all the info from my connection and others available. if the card is removed netstumbler crashes. I have the latest drivers. at least it's much better than 0.3, that never worked.

My WPC54G does not appear to work with .4. I get the error message at the bottom of the application window, "No wireless adapter found".

What OS are you running? I use Win2000 and encountered this problem when the network for that card was "disabled." The card manager utility also said the card was "inactive." Once I enabled the network, both the CM and NS found it.

I don't have much experience with XP but if you disable Zero Config Wireless, does that help?

I doubt this is it, but did you go up to the device option and pick one?

Cisco Systems 350 series PCMCIA adapter is shown as not supported

A real bummer, I'm pretty new to wireless networking and my tech support folks and customers are looking for an easy way to find and attach to non-work access points. My company has standardized on the Aironet card for machines without built in wireless, or the Dell D-400 with built in wifi.

My Dlink cheapo-wireless card in my home workstation is working properly with NetStumbler - recognized as a "TI ACX100 Wlan Adapter"

I have a Xircom CWE1100 pcmcia card in my laptop running Windows XP. And it doesn't seem to recognize my driver installed. Is the Xircom supported is there some patch I can possibly do to provide a work around to alleviate this issue. Getting "No wireless card found" upon starting up NetStumbler 0.4.0

If that card is similar to the 1120/1130, the chipset is Aironet and not supported. You can try to remove it completely from the system including the drivers and then try to see if NS recognizes it using just the NDIS drivers, not the ones included with the card. No guarantees though.

My 5410 works fine with 0.4 as long as I use the USR 4.0 drivers. With the 5.0 drivers, the card isn't recognized. I rolled back the drivers after updating, and works OK.

In addition, the Linksys WPC54GS doesn't work either. This is the new "+ speedbooster" card from Linksys.

****edit****
It does work, just have to start NS then install the card.

WPC55AG works only for a few seconds

Postby Kakkerlak » Tue Jun 01, 2004 12:09 pm

NS 0.3.30 did detect my Linksys WPC55AG v1.1 multi-band card (in NDIS mode only) but the program unceremoniously shuts down after a few minutes or a few seconds. It seems to get a couple of minutes of function the first time I run it, then only a few seconds on the subsequent runs.

I'm running a Dell Latitude C610 with Win2K SP4.

The WPC55AG uses the Atheros 5212 chipset (according to one review) and the driver supplied is AR5211.sys, reported by Windows as Atheros 2.4.2.33 driver.

I removed the Linksys configuration utility, and that did not seem to make a difference. I will cautiously reinstall it, though I wish I knew another way to set up this card in Windows 2000 without that utility.

I have installed NS 0.40 and so far, so good ! It shows both Atheros and NDIS modes for this card.

I have retained operation of the program for an hour now and I'm excited to report that it is finding AP's around my office park.

Now to wardrive 300 miles of the I-90 this afternoon !

USRobotics Cards...

Postby skogs » Sun Jun 06, 2004 10:35 am

A while ago I purchased a pair of USR5614 (PCI slot) and one 5610(PCMCIA). Now, the most recent version of netstumbler does not work with the PCI cards at all. Perhaps as earlier posted the older hardware drivers would work. I will try that. OK, now the real question is this: All machines nice freshly loaded, no problems - the laptop with the 5610 can network with either of the other two, but the 5614s cannot communicate with eachother. I know, no access point, so ad-hoc one at a time. The 5610 is out of commission now anyway since my bathtup overflowed onto the laptop turning it into a $1600 paperweight. So now all I need is the to pci cards to talk to eachother and play nice. All machines are win2k. The laptop used to be winxp...probably makes a difference somehow, but I don't know how. any thoughts? Yes, standard workgroups, IP ranges/DHCP, and login/passwords are all set correctly. ????? ideas ?????
