Senao / Engenius NMP-8602 minipci

Something I found out which is wierd: My Senao /Engenius NMP-8602 mini pci card can connect to networks under xp better than under slax (linux). I dont mean sniffing or injecting, i mean connecting to an ap thats got a weak signal. Under xp i can connect to a weak signal and use it where as under slax i can see the same signal, but i cant connect to it. Only when I get closer, ie. the signal gets stronger, can i connect to it under slax. I dont really understand why but obviously theres some setting in the linux driver thats different from the xp driver.
Id appreciate any help.
