Of course mine isn't really a server cabinet but an old vibration monitoring equipment cabinet. However it was free and it's in great shape.

Oh I measured the cabinet and the servers should fit withouth hitting the wall behind :)

We've never seen Franks server room for all we know it's this:

its basic, solid, I run one as my ftp server, has a gig nic.

I have a Dlink DNS323 with a pair of 1TB drives in it running RAID 1. This gives me 981GB of storage. I have had the Dlink for over two years and have not had any problems with it in that time. This is the 3rd set of drives that I have put through the box (first a pair of 250 GB, then a pair of 320 GB).

Mine has a single 1.5 tb in it and I am going to be getting another 1.5 tb.
its nice and solid, does its job and best of all, its small.

Freenas is the way to go, run delta copy on your winblows computers and you have a nice gui interface for rsync.

Well the servers came in today. If anybody has a couple sets of rails let me know. Right now I'm just going to put a shim under them and set them on the shelves.

Looks like the 3rd RJ45 is for management only so I'll have to pick up PCI-X ethernet card unless it's backwards compatible standard to the old PCI.

the 3rd rj45 is the ILO2 port... and there might be a sticker on the side some place with the ILO2 login and password....

it being a 1U, then the PCI riser will have to have the adapter risers in them... then its just a normal pci or pciE card..... usually its PCI... as for the brackets it looks like it can have both low profile and a normal one.
looking at the photos of the internals I would say PCI and it can handle 2 more. If brain is functioning all the internal nics are 1 gb.

adding hd will be a pain since its a 1 U but you could add an Esata card later...

It has room for 2 drives. I added 750GB drive to what will be the NAS. Haven't tried installing yet but Pfsense is 32 bit only so have to see if there's anything special to installing/running in 32 bit mode since the processors are 64 bit. Supposedly it can be done.

WARNING: So far I have been unsuccesful in getting this thing to boot from a USB thumbdrive. Every way I've tried to make the usb drive at boot I get "could not find kernel image"

Just upload your pics via the torrents, let the cloud take care of your storage needs.

I'll have a 250GB drive with me if anyone wants to loan me some movies at Shmoocon. I've got some movies but most of them are 640x480 res for my PDA. They're watchable on a 40" LCD though.

As for the rails, nevermind I'll just get some Al square stock and mount it across the back of the cabinet.
