Why goto Tuscaloosa, when there's one here in the Shoals!! :)

I used to live in T-Town though. Really liked it there, but my job went away so had to look elsewhere. :(

You from T-Town??

GPS

Postby DaClyde » Mon Jun 02, 2003 9:19 am

Pretty much any GPS that will connect to a computer will work. I'm using a Deluo USB, since I only have need for the GPS with a computer and not a stand alone unit. I'd borrowed a Garmin GPS 12 before that, and it worked fine as well.

Yup,

I saw like a $2000 GPS the other day. A guy stopped by where I worked and had one. He repairs the computers on the tall radio/cell towers that send signals to the owners and let them know the lights have gone out. It had like a 6 inch color screen. Would bring up maps of the whole US, Canada, and Mexico. Pretty sweet!! Heh. Was really accurate too. I know I can do the same with my laptop and a good map program, but it was cool to see that in just one unit. :)

Myself I'm using a Garmin Legend. Got it at Best Buy for around 250 or so. Only drawback is that it's serial, so if you don't have a serial port on your laptop, there may be a problem there.

Hmm...not sure...those guards on the arsenal been pretty fierce since 9/11. Doing everything short of anal probes. ;) Bout the closest I'd go is the Space and Rocket Center.. heh. A turkish freind of mine said that he gets searched everytime he leaves the airport over there. So I can imagine what kinda things are going on over at the arsenal and Marshall!

Just use a BIG Cantenna... Throw it up on your sholder and scan
away. Try this one, I heard it really rocks... :D

Of corse it shines a little to much, but some nice OD-Green paint
can fix it right up....

LOL...I can see the DOD guys running down my car now with that thing pointed in their general direction. :) They'd probably think I was terrorist with some kind of Ground to Air ML trying to shoot down incoming planes at the airport nearby.. Hehe.

Good idea though in concept, I don't want to be the second guy taken to jail because of a cantenna being mistaken for some kinda weapon. LOL :)

WWWD3 results?

Postby DaClyde » Thu Jul 10, 2003 1:02 pm

So, did anyone get any stumbling done in Cullman or Florence? I did a minimal amout for Hsv/Madison, but found a few hundred new APs in the area just on the major roads that I hadn't stumbled in awhile.

Hey guys I had been wanting to get into this for months but just got around to it!

Anyway I live in the Albertville/Guntersville Area and went on my virgin run tonight for about 30 minutes and got 15 APs. Somebody submitted a lot to Jingle. I guess it was some of you guys....Good Job!

Anyway glad to see more of us around....I plan to explorer this area and back toward Ft. Payne and Gadsden.

I just got my GPS today from a place in Decatur...I got one of those new USB Delorome Earthmates and it works great after you install the usb-to-serial drivers. I am also using a Lucent Technologies WavLan Silver 5v with pig tail (no antenna yet). I think the card I am using is older but I am not sure if I would be better off getting another one or not...maybe you guys know.

Any tips you guys can give or area you might like to see down this way let me know. :D

Welcome to the gang Radar. I've been outta of it for a bit. Been pretty busy with school and work as of late and haven't been able to stumble much. Hopefully that will change soon. So what kinda setup do you have? Myself, I have the 5db Mag Mount Antenna, with and Orinoco Gold. Been wanting to make a Cantenna, but that time thing just hasn't been too friendly as of late. :(

DaClyde I didn't get to do anything for WWWD3 :(. Had something come up that weekend and wasn't able to stumble around. Although Florence ruffly has around 100+ APs that I've found and that was before WWWD3, so I'm guessing with popularity of 802.11, I wouldn't be suprised to find around 150. I'm sure you found a ton in Hville. A friend and I stumbled there back around June and found like 120 APs in less than 30 minutes just stumbling around downtown and up towards the mountain. :)
