Anyone gotten any mapping done in Aus? I've tried OziExplorer, but it's a nuisance to get going...

In Adelaide here.

I stumbled on one in the bottom the Myer Centre in the Mall here, I was in Dick Smiths down there and one of the laptops in there found 'Unsecured wireless network'.

Rather odd for there to be an unsecured network in there considering it's a food court and thousands of uni students and business people are in there daily.

Hello All,

I havent seen much from Down Under so this is my setup.
Toshiba Pro4300 P3 750 128M Ram
Garmin Gps 90 ( I use this when I fly also )
100 W Dc-Ac converter
Avaya Gold and Home Made Antenna ( works a lot better than the internal)
Garmin MapSource
GpsGate
Win Xp Pro Sp1
I get to drive from 200 - 400 kms a day, so a WarDrive is no problem !

I have some pictures but dont seem to be able to attach them.

I'm new to the wireless scene, but even I can see that the whole "wireless security" concept does not appear to have really caught on in Melbourne yet.

Just a few days ago I enabled the wireless card in my lappy while at work ( CBD, western end of Collins St ), and picked up 8 networks - 6 of which were 100% insecure.

BUt I forgot to back up the files & lost it al(and also lost the plot) when my crappy laptop packed it & I had to reinstall windows.

I am now back in good old Brissy.
So,if anyone from Brissy is interested in meeting up,pm me .
Also,I will be going down to Adelaide some time in the future & also to Sydney,Canberra & Melbourne.

Security, whats that?

Postby darkwarden » Mon Jun 06, 2005 3:41 am

Working as an IT tech, it's both hilarious and frustrating at the number of unsecured networks. Although I love wireless networks I do get sick of turning on my wireless card and detecting so many networks that are unsecured.

I have countless customers ask me for wireless equipment and they all ask about the security systems in them, but they never implement them, they expect them to be turned on by default and they rarely are.

WAKE UP YOU MORONS OUT THERE!

I want more wireless networks secured but it would mean that forums like these would no longer serve a purpose.

I'm so torn between my views on wireless networks.
