"Anyone else in the Lake County Area? " -Jeffrowe

I live in the hell hole known as the round lake area as well. I swear this is the town that technology forgot about. :)

The observation deck @ the sears tower has proved usefull for a friend of mine who lives nearby. he works on the observation deck, and it has been excellent for the observation of networks with a nice yagi and a handheld PC. Definatly worth checking out.

The Cement/Metal casing around the elevator shafts unfortunatly acts like a very effective shield against wifi signals, but you can still pick up most of the networks in the building on the way up.

Anyone in the far west suburbs? Like near Aurora or Elgin or in between?

Darn that's too bad -- I made my first netstumbling trip around the block (Ok, about 3 miles round trip but still) and picked up 22 APs!

In the not too distant future, I'd be happy to put something together. I'm on the NW side of Chicago.

Ah I know where that is.

I live about a mile from O'hare. Last night I went for a 3-4 mile drive, I picked up 23 APs. I didn't even have an external antenna!

Anyone interested in getting a shindig together, rent a stretch limousine for a block of hours and go to town? :)

Heh, all receivers in the same limo wouldn't be very efficient. :)

I grew up about two or three miles from O'Hare--don't remember how far it was, but it was just on the border between Chicago and Park Ridge, down Talcott Road from Resurrection Hospital.

Houses are close together there--lotsa APs in the more affluent areas, but the percentage with WEP enabled is very low for some odd reason.

I'll be stumbling Chicago again this summer, when I'm out there for the big book publishing trade show at McCormick Place.

Suggestion: Try meetup.com.

I-90 @ Irving Park

Postby ordxpres » Fri Aug 20, 2004 9:28 pm

Recently on my way home from work (O'Hare) I did some net stumbling... started @ O'Hare....found about 29 ap's until Irving Park. @ Irving Park exit suddenly about 20 AP's were found by netstumbler... with 50% unsecure...quite interesting. Then Driving East on Irving Park one AP after another...businesses and personal.
