Southgate area

Postby Guest » Wed Apr 10, 2002 9:41 am

Check out http://www.amongo.com and look for "WLAN Discovery Progress". If you want a map with more detail of Southgate, contact me via email at adam@amongo.com

Also, being that you have a prism based card, why not try APSniff or aerosol? I don't have a link of where to download it, but I'm sure you can find it.

If you can't, I know I have the files somewhere. I could email them to you.

Marquette huh?
Ever get into Rhinelander area?
I have my FHSS LAN running and if you have FHSS capability, you can find me, I run a high gain vertical fed with 7/8" heliax to my tower, which is right now at 20' going to over 40' this summer, maybe the full 80' if I get the help I'll need.
You can also call on 800 Mhz. LTR use 853.4875, tone: 100 Hz. I run 15 watts, but might boost it to 60 with the amp I have.

I'd really love to have DSSS capability, but have wasted money on these damn Proxim Symphony PC cards(poor choice).

One addition to make spotting me easier, use Commander Data
in your security setting if you are using Proxim cards, I'll change the ID when it gets used, so I don't worry about data loss, nothing on the LAN is worth hijacking, just Win98SE, and that is NOT worth sniffing for, right?

Have at it folks, I look forward to chatting over coffee with some of the NS clan!

RE: Northern Michigan

Postby Penguinix » Sun Apr 21, 2002 9:06 am

I am a college student at NMU in Northern Michigan, which is located in Marquette. If you have ever been to this town, you would see that is a very small community, of which the college is a major part of the population. I work for the residential networking group on campus, so stumbling on or around is generally pretty boring, but last night I ventured away from campus and holy crap.

Covering maybe 40% of the inner city I found about 6 seperate buildings with various brands of AP and some much more powerful than others. It appears as though anyone withing about a 3 block radius of our major hospital could get Wireless with a pringles can or any cheap commercial antenna.

Apart from that, most were located in or around one area, what I can only assume is the tech savvy or larger cable modem bank in the city.

Only 1 had WEP enabled labeled airport(but with vendor of Wavelan?), 4 were linksys, 1 apple, and 1 Gem-Tek(D-link) [in a model home community].

I was driving, and my girlfriend both took notes, and scanned with the pringles antenna.

Now all I need is a GPS to ensure we had the spots right.

Metro Detroit Stumbling

Metro Detroit Stumbling is VERY good.

We've recorded more than 1400 APs in Detroit and the 'burbs.

Happy hunting!
