Here is a link for wifi access (FREE btw) in the Houston Area.

http://www.auscillate.com/wireless/houston/

I am sure there are more but its good to have a list of wifi places handy.

One of my salesmen where I work (I am the network admin) enjoys such lists since he can pull over and wifi into work and do things better instead of using his treo phone as a modem.

He knows alot of wifi places on the east side of Houston (going out I-10) since that is his turf.

I haven't yet, as I haven't had computer capable of using my usb GPS. I did have a fujitsu point510 tablet pc (no usb ports, single pcmcia slot held my wifi card). Now I've got a full laptop so I plan on doing a bit of driving around up there. I saw that pic before and saved it :) Could you possibly take a shot of a closer look at the sugarland area? I'll post whatever I come up with next time I go.

I'm down by the coast, few minutes from freeport....chemical plants here have some unsecure wifi points which concerns me

I too just discovered this interesting passtime (stumbling). I've made 2 quick surveys through just 2 neighborhoods on the northside of h-town and was totally amazed at the number of APs that exist. (>500)

I'd have to say I've found roughly 10,000 APs in the Houston area.... Austin by far has more, probably another 20,000 of my count is from that area. Everything else is from the rest of the world.

Have you been around the HP/Compaq facilities and the Tomball area or NASA Clearlake? I would think there would be zillions there. I may drive it once for fun.

Your tag line implies you do your surveys at night.
Is there a nightime display for stumbler? (white letters on black) Most of my map APs have night settings.

Not that I am aware of.. I have stumbled both day and at night.

And the vast majority this month have been in/around the Houston area.... plus I found a bunch of new ones in the Alpine/FtStockton/FtDavis area as well. And no, I'm not a member of the Netstumbler Forum group yet.... since I run Kismet, it almost seems like a contradiction of terms. ;) Once we get to the point where my points will help surpass hratch, I'll think about it. :))
