Packet Sniffer for PPC

Packet Sniffer for PPC

Postby SkaOMatic » Thu May 26, 2005 1:43 am

Hey all.

Looking for a packet sniffer that works reasonably well with the newish Dell Axim x50 series. I admin a WMAN on the CA coast, and it would be killer to be able to run real diagnostics from my PPC rather than lug my laptop around or sit at console.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

...supposedly advertises a PPC based packet sniffer...

No sign of it on the web site though...so as always, YMMV...

There is also this one from the makers of vxIPConfig and vxUtil...

There may be others...

Sooner Al,

Thanks for the reply. I probably should've been more explicit when I made my post, as I've already tried a few programs.

I was able to locate AirScanner, and found it incompatible. The same with VxSniffer (though I do enjoy Cambridge's other tools). I was also able to track down CEniffer v1.0, but it was incompatible with PPC2003. I've read of later versions (up to 3.2), but am unable to locate them. The company, it seems, is either out of the market, or have converted to presentation systems only.

Again, Thanks for your effort. It was appreciated.

CEniffer 3.2 is here: http://www.pocketpccity.com/software/pocketpc/CENiffer-2001-11-16-ce-pocketpc2002.html

looks a bit gay to me :)

Airscanner's sniffer is fantastic, might be worth getting a cheap CF wifi card that is supported by it if you are serious about sniffing on that pda.
There are a couple of commercial sniffers around, airmagnet and one i forget the name of.. but they cost big bucks. like thousands :(

The other option, one i'm looking into atm is installing linux on the pda and using kismet. i've used kismet on a laptop b4 and it's awesome.. just found out tonight that they have ported it to ARM so i'm keen to try it.

Final option is coding your own. I'd really like to do this, would be great to include wep cracking, but i'm not sure how much low-level coding is required. Hopefully there's the right C libs around................
