Beakmyn's Scooby Stumbler

Ok here it is the long awaited Scooby Stumbler!

Hardware:
Panasonic Toughbook CF-45
266Mhz, 160Mb Ram, 10GB Hardrive
Fedora Core 2, Kismet, GPSDrive, gKismet
Dell Truemobile/Orinoco Gold
Fab-Corp 5dB Mag mount Omni
Lind DC-DC Converter (no AC inversion for me)
Garmin Etrex Legend
USB Pendrive courtesy of the fine folks over at Foxboro.com

Vehicle:
2002 Subaru Outback H6 3.0 Sedan

Tip #1
I decided with the amount of time the Etrex can run on batteries there was no point in buying a seperate DC power supply so I run it off the Duracells. Less cables, less mess.

Tip#2
Found in this forum, somewhere. To prevent undo lateral stress on your Orinoco pigtail, go to Walmart and buy a set of 'Slip Grip Report Covers' ($1.97 USD) and cut the black one to the width of your card and tape it on. It fits nicely and now more worrying about breaking the pins off. Plus you can hide that Hideous Dell logo with its crooked Enron 'E'.

Hey! We have the same gps!! I picked up one of the suction cup holders for it. So far it's been attached to the window for about two weeks. Hasn't let go yet. It's been in temps from about 20F to what ever the defroster on high blows out. Really worth it, especially when you take a corner really fast and it goes zooming across the dash. Missed my laptop by inches once. The case would take it, so would the gps but the display isn't protected.

I will now proceed to hate you.

That there antenna is the very one I should have gotten but my wallet overruled better judgement on this one.

I'm still kicking myself over it.

Feel free to join in.

If I remember right, the Subaru outback was voted the ultimate lesbian car.

Anyways, I got a power/data combo cable combo for about 12 bucks off ebay. Works great! I don't mind having the extra cable. I got the Energizer NIMH batteries for the GPS, but I always forget to charge them.

I wanted a car not many people had. I see dozens of wagons everyday but only 2 other black sedans, a green one and a white one. That's it. So I'm unique and special, just like everybody else.

Anyway there's been a question on what the slip grip report covers are so here's some pictures.

The winner was the wagon (Car Talk on NPR), which fits, but mine's a sedan so Nah, Nah, Nah. But I'll let lesbians ride with me if they want.
[edit]
but not the ugly butch lesbians with mullets that you see in the supermarket and county fair.

Thanks Thorn. I hope I'm not infringing on your patent rights. Here's a picture of said clip in action.

Not at all.

Although... I suppose I could act like SCO. Yeah, that's it. I'll start by suing the clip manufactures for inappropriate use of MY clip. After that, it's the guys who make the paper. (Don't worry, beakmyn, you'll be far down the list.) Now if I could just find the number for my attorneys: Dewey, Cheatem and Howe.

Actually the first link was my original post on the subject from March of 2002. You'll notice there's no avatar, signature, etc., since all those posts were from the first version of these forums. When bks did the first forum upgrade in April 2002, for some reason the first database didn't convert, and everyone had to rejoin. All the prior posts are listed as "Guests."

By May 2002, when the second post was made, the new software was in place and we could attach pictures.

Noob question coming, turn off your flamethrowers, please.

I looked at the pictures in one of the first posts and I have a question.

Do you drive around with the laptop on the passenger side FLOOR like that? How are you supposed to see the screen and do things while driving or stopping somewhere?

Or do you just drive and then look at everything when you get home?
