This is Cool!

OK, I went on my very first drive the other day and I've got to thank the gods for technologically challenged people!

A 9 mile drive revealed 52 networks of which 37 were unencrypted, 20 were at defaults.

My setup:

Compaq N800W
HP IPaq 5550
Orinco Gold 802.11b
and the W200 builtin
Delorme Earthmate USB (Not working yet, any advice would be appreciated)

I actually got some really good signals with the W200 built in to the laptop!

I did some Christmas shopping, checked my stocks and email.

Looks like 'Livin' in a Van Down by the River' is not such a bad thing after all!

These folks create a market for security and technology consultants. Thus, I am allowed to feed my children and buy more technology toys!

I HOPE you're not saying that you connected to any of these unprotected networks? Let's clear something up right now... unprotected is NOT EQUAL to Free Internet Access!!!

For some reason I'm not going to flame further.... guess I need more caffeine!

Absolutely not. That would be wrong. Just trying to emphasize the point that it would be very easy to do (and hard to resist for many). It helps underscore the fact that the average home wireless user needs help in understanding network security.

Thanks,
Dave

Easy there fellas:) !

I was kidding about the email, stocks thing. I would never connect to an un-authorized AP.

I was just trying to share my setup with you all in the hopes of contributing some useful information to this forum.

Happy driving and have a great holiday season everyone.

No, g, it sells like something larger. Maybe elephant?

Christmas shopping? Checking stock quotes? While wardriving?

Buck's reply, after he realized that we don't take to kindly to that kind of thing around these here parts: "Oh, hey; not me. I don't do that."

The Forum's reply:"But you just said..."

Buck's reply, after realizing he's screwed the pooch and got caught by said pooch's owner: "Oh, hey, that? That was just a joke."

To further try to schmooze, Buck tries to put the Forum off by stating: "Happy Holidays, everyone! Let's all be friends and forget I ever said any of that other stuff."

Happy Holidays, inDEED! To quote Judge Judy, "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining..."

A good way to threaten somebody is to light a stick of dynamite.
Then you call the guy and hold the burning fuse up to the phone.

I'm willing to bet that the hair wouldn't move regardless of how many times you bounced her off the headboard!
