"All Your 802.11b Are Belong To Us"

How about a feature that lets us turn this beacon off or change it to wahtever the user likes? This would make Netstumbler harder to detect and easier to defeat wireless IDS that have sig for "All Your 802.11b Are Belong To Us".

What does everybody think?

Uncheck "Get AP Names" and it won't send that out.

But what about allowing for user editing of this string? This would allow for the user to still get AP names but allow for better security.

This would be good for legitimate pentesting.

Is it possible?

The version that i use (0.3.30) does not send any kind of data-probes containing that string. Even if I activate the "query for AP Names" Option.

Does anybody made the same or different observations?

Could the developers give a comment about this, please?
