NS Card Support

Postby Madhadder » Sun Sep 28, 2003 2:32 pm

Hello All,

Am I the only one that is getting tired of the "My Card isn't working with NS questions"?
Even after 1000's of messages in the forums, and no matter how
bad we "Flame" the noobs people just don't seem to get the hint
that the only "Officially supported" cards have a Hermes Chipset.

What I suggest for the next ver of NS, is that upon starting NS
checks the Registry entries for the WIFI card currently installed
and pulls the PCMCIA ID String. If the String doesn't match the
supported cards list "Internal DB" then NS throws up a :

"Your Card is not supported by this program, and may not function the way it should with this program".

I suppose that if you REALLY wanted to be a BOFH you can may
NS refuse to run on those unsupported cards.

Then perhaps we wouldn't have so many lame/stupid users/questions all the time.... Or atleast cut them down a bit..

Just my .02

/end rant

AMEN

I for one am tired of flaming noob's. I know that I should answer the questions in a more professional manner but for christ sake, one can only put up with it for so long before the person snaps. I'm just glad we don't see these people in real life.

Can't we just have a big banner ad at the top of the page that says "If it ain't an Orinoco card it's not going to work" or something like that.

Madhadder, you aren't the only one who is frustrated by this, believe me. Your suggestion for the program is a good idea, but you know it would start a new round of utterly stupid questions such as: "Why does NetStumbler say my card is unsupported?"

I don't have any better ideas as far as the forums go.

Holoman, not to pick on you, but why didn't you see that in the README.HTML or the FAQ threads?

I can not believe you asked that question Mr. Thorn. I am a noob, what noob ever reads that stuff? come on now. LOL. Yea to be honest most people do not read the rules. It is only when 1. they get flamed so bad they have no choice or 2. they have been around the board awhile and get bored and decide to read. Hahahahaha. Well this is a great board and should supply me with alot of nightly reading.

OK, after much thinking, I would say that the best idea is to have
NS just refuse to run on unsupported cards.

Perhaps we can get Marius, to include this feature in the next ver.
I've even created the window.
