Orinoco wi/fi card with redhat 7.3 help

Postby ki113r » Wed Aug 07, 2002 4:15 pm

hello, I've reacently downloaded redhat 7.3. I now own a Lucent Orinoco gold card. I'd like to set up the card on my laptop but i'm new to linux and can't figure it out. In graphical mode there is a menu that lookes like a control panel. So if i go there i click network configuration. And click add a hardware device. i pick ethernet, then other ethernet card to pick up a driver. i picked wavelan_cs. For device i picked eth0. Then i get lost i'm not sure what to pick for :
IRQ: 3-15
MEM:
IO:
IO1:
IO2:
DMA0:
DMA1:

what should i put? please help If there is another way to do this please reply. Thanks

Thanks for replying. I'll try again, but when i finish adding it i get an error code. I'll get back to you with the error code.
Thanks,

I'm running an orinoco gold on RedHat 7.3 -- the correct driver is orinoco_cs NOT the wavelan driver. Happy surfing :)

In fact if you choose wavelan_cs it will not work (which is the problem you were having before hratch).

I still use the wvlan_cs module with my silver card when trying to connect to ap's. If im using kismet to scan i use the patched orinoco_cs driver. you can edit /etc/pcmcia/conf to make it load the wvlan_cs driver.

i got an easier way for RH 7.3..
the drivers i have been patched to work w/ kismet..
um, assuming ur using KDE.. got to the K menu, then to i think system, or utilities. some thinkg like that... then go to internet connection wizard.. then a window should come up, run through the wizard and when it asks what card, mine only worked w/ "netlan_cs".. ..then there will be a screen to activate or deactivate ur network cards.. if u have a built in card in ur laptop, disable it. then it should all work..

if anything here doesn't, tell me and i'll boot to linux and check it out..

it worked to use with my AP at home, but it wasn't a go with kismet.
