Untangle server for firewall/spam/webfilter/attack filtering

Postby Starpoint » Tue May 12, 2009 4:39 pm

I am in the process of testing out the newest Untangle for a contract gig for my brother's church. They are looking to dump their current IT contract that they pay 800 a month for remote monitoring (to see if the link is up) and if the network needs some hands on they call a local.

I told them I can do it all for 500 a month

any pros or cons about Untangle?

PS.... since I know alot of pron sites I can seed it with those to keep them out...or...G8te, if you could PM your bookmark file? :D:D:D

I played around with untangle a few years ago. Pretty slick, but it was missing a few things I needed at the time. I'm pretty sure it still is. I need two separate dhcp servers running. It couldn't do that then.

I tested it under my router which is a DHCP server and ran it as a dhcp server. Just gave it separate sub nets..

You can also set it up as a bridge under a DHCP server .

Golf on the righty-side, it's bad enough as it is.

Update on Untangle - they offered some new additions on the PAY applications side.
Multi WAN and Wan balancling

Their release notes say "why pay for an expensive T connector when you can get some cheaper dsl and cable connections..."

I would love to see this come out for the free app side even if it was limited (paid side allows for as many uplinks as you can get but the free side limit it to say 3 tops)

going to install it on a machine today and see what is new
