Would This Setup Work?

Hi, I was thinking about advancing my WarDrive and WarWalking Activites.Would this set up work?

http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=314075 ( - The PDA)

http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=120705&cks=ACC (-The CF GPS)

I was looking at Mini Stumbler but couldnt tell if that CF card/WLAN was supported. Does anyone know a cheap PDA that does the best job for WarWalking/Driving?

Many Thanks,

Shamrock365

Personally, if you want to use a PDA then get an older IPaq, a pcmcia sleeve, orinoco card then get a bluetooth GPS and use GPSgate to ministumbler You should be able to get the whole setup and more for what that other PDA costs.

You don't neccesarily need something this powerful but here's an idea.

You'll have problems getting a cf gps and the orinoco in the sleeve at the same time. Unless you have one of those orinoco cards without a built in antenna.

Thats a fair enough point. A Bluetooth GPS wouldnt be too much hassle anyway. Do I need any other software for the GPS to be able to run with NS on a PDA? And then be able to plot them?

Yes, you'd need WindowsXP installed on your PDA. but I bet you meant to say MS (MiniStumbler).

Maybe.

This version of MiniStumbler is known to work on HPC2000,PocketPC 3.0, PocketPC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003.

It may or may not work on the newer handhelds.

If you can find an iPaq 55xx or older it will work with the os and the dual pcmcia sleeve.

This thread reminded me that I have a Compaq iPAQ 3835 sitting in the closet. I wonder if I can find any software for it and the drivers to make a Cisco Aironet 350 card I have work with it. If memory serves me right, it worked in that configuration three or four years ago.

Pretty sure the card will work. Now the big question, will the battery still take a charge? I know my 5555's won't.

Bring it to Shmoocon we'll see what we can do with it there.

Oh yeah, don't forget your collection of Hawaiiian music.

Most Lithium-Ion batteries don't work when it's 75 below.

Thanks for the tips. Any idea's where the best place in Europe is to get PDA's etc? (Cheap but of good quality) Or is eBay the best route? The Dell Axim range looks good. Are they worth investigating?

The older dells might run ministumbler, the newest one won't. The dells also can't use pcmcia cards.
