I came across a Symbol Spectrum24 11Mbps Access Point but can not seem to connect to it and was wonderig if others have seen this.

I can connect just fine when using a Symbol PCMCIA card but not with an ORiNOCO card. It is almost like it will only work with other cards by the same manufacture.

(This is not an issue of WEP or Authorized MAC so dont even suggest it.)

Spectrum24 - FHSS?

Doesn't the spectrum gear use FHSS instead of DSSS? If so, that might be the reason why the Orinoco card (or any other WiFi card, I'd guess) won't see it.

Interesting -- I know there are a few people on the BAWUG list that would be interested in this type of information.

I believe the older Spectrum24 stuff used FHSS - that was the stuff that was limted to 1 or 2 Mbps. I believe that all of their 11Mbps stuff uses DSSS.

11Mbps

Well it is an 11Mbps unit, so if Jerry is right it would be running DSSS. NetStumbler will pick it up, and as far as I know Stumbler will not pick up FHSS.

Still perplexed,

Have you checked out the Product Data Sheets?

Perhaps a list of product data sheets for Symbol might have some clues?

The Interoperability Consortium Lab in New Hampshire might have some information somewhere in their site as far as compatibility:
