I was curios if you had any weather related problems with the setup in the box, in the past I've found Linksys equip. pretty temperature sensitive.
I'm going to be using the Smartbridges for my outdoor equip.

For Playin around with site surveys I've found Linksys is a nice cheap way of doing that and if it works with the wap11 its gonna be awesome with the Smartbridge.

No problems so far. I've got one (WAP11 v1.1) sitting in an attic where the summer temp hits over 100ºF and the winter low is below 0ºF. The only lockups I've every had were related to config changes; powered it off and it was back running.

Version 2 is designed to be a temporary WIPOP test setup. Something that can be put up temporarily to see signal "real world" propagation. An old PC networked to the WAP will serve as something to run pings, download tests, etc. Then a proper unit (ORiNOCO) can be installed if the location warrants it.

V2 is going on a local hilltop water tower, about 65'AGL. This will be very exposed, and we'll see if there any any weather related issues. The PC will be in the doghouse. I just have to figure the voltage drop and get a power supply something that give the right voltage over 150'+ of PoE. Rumor has it the Linksys models will run over a fairly wide range of voltage, so I may have some leeway.

I believe your correct on the voltages with linksys but I never tried.
I'm starting a wisp here on the river I live on so the boaters out here can have wireless broadband. They went nuts over the Idea, the only reason they're not on the boats during the week in the summer is they have no access to they're company networks , stocks, etc.
Thats why I chose smartbridges pretty reliable weather proof and under $400.

Thorn,

Would it be rude to ask how much ($) you have in that setup minus the WAP?

TIA

Here's the breakdown (in USD):

NEMA-4 box $25
PoE (2) $40
Exterior Cat5 cable & connectors $10
RF cable & connectors $15
4.5dB Omni Ant. (w/S&H) $50
Misc. cable ties, mounting hardware, etc. $5
--------------------------------------------
Total: $145

Caveat: Being in the business, I buy the some of the items in bulk and discount quanties. Costs for an individual buying these things might push it closer to $200. Also, the antenna is the single biggest expense. A different antenna will change the overall cost.
