Bought a WRT54G yesterday.....my first AP. So far so good....I plan on spending the rest of the day today testing it out.

Anyone else going .11g?

ISM band is too crowded, so I'll stick with the 802.11b stuff I already have.

The next step is investing in some 802.11a equipment, but that's not in the budget for a long while yet.

im personaly staying away from all wireless stuff until a standard comes out that includes framing authentication built in. Well i might fire up my ap again for my ps2 or xbox. but no other traffic will go over it for sure.

Have had my "G" operating for the past two weeks in place of standard "B" and have been impressed with throughput and speed. So far, it meets its press release about performance specs.

Don't think for a moment that you will ever achieve 54 Mbs speeds but you should certainly enjoy speeds considerably in excess of "B" boxes ... all things being equal.

Range is about what was expected, i.e., no appreciable improvement over "B" but then again there was no claim that it would be.

Next step is to add back the "B" box to the network and spread out my coverage area and then to see if the laptop will play favorites.

I don't use my AP at home as much anymore to care about the increase of speed with g ... even though using 104-bit WEP really does slow things down! ehh, I'll live!

In yesterday's mail were a couple of Warehouse.com's division catalogs. The Comms catalogue was full of all sorts of .11g items. What I found interesting was next to each item proclaiming 802.11g there was a "[draft g]" in the fine print . At least they're being honest about it, which is more than I've seen from other vendors.
