Or are you a .edu'r?

By "a .edu'r", I take it you mean someone from a university or college? Hell, no. You couldn't pay me enough to work in one of those places. Low standards for the people that work there, and lower standards for the students. Besides, those people are too Politically Correct. They always cry when I talk about voting for Ronald Regean, eating read meat, and the Right to Bear Arms. :)

Think about the majority of naming conventions used in WLANs. Do you really think someone actually was thinking of the Roman Romulus? If so, I'll bet you speak fluent Latin also, he-he!

As an IT person, and knowing a lot of IT people, most of them think in the world of sci-fi and not Roman legends.

Network naming conventions I've seen have used almost every aspect of culture as a base, from the Telly-Tubbies to Hindu gods, (including Greek and Roman myths.) Sure, the frequency of science fiction naming ranks higher then others, even so, I wouldn't discount the Roman Romulus. Yes, I'd think of the Roman legends before Star Trek. No, I don't speak Latin, but I can read enough to get by when absolutely necessary.

I studied that crap in college also, learned enough to pass the test and that was it. I enjoyed Star Trek much more!

It's a pity that you thinks it's "crap", but I find it remarkable that you had to study it "in college." In my schools, Greek and Roman mythology was taught in the fourth or fifth grade.

One guy who didn't think it was crap was Gene Roddenbury. He always said a high percentage of his original Star Trek storylines were traceable directly to mythology. BTW, just in case you think that I don't enjoy Star Trek, I do; enough to have even attended a Con, years ago. DeForrest Kelley was the keynote speaker.

'Programmed' an SSID... I usually just type it in?:p

OK, "programmed" is probably overstated. Just consider it shorthand for "typed in a new setting, to override a default." :p

On the right to bear arms, my favorite site is http://www.packing.org

On Romulus being related to Star Trek or Mythology, I look at it this way. Trekkies would be more likely to use "Romulans" than "Romulus". Romulus is more likely someone with a little understanding of and familiarity with mythical culture and background.

Beyond that, I just enjoy creative SSIDs in general, sort of like vanity plates on cars. I see no value in paying a special rate for a vanity plate and then using it to put my damned initials on it, or the type of car I'm driving. You don't need to know my initials, and if you can't tell what I'm driving then you probably can't read the vanity plate anyway. I'd use the vanity plates to make a statement or try to get a chuckle out of someone.

You do have some good points Thorn! It's hard to say what they were thinking?

Also, I agree completely about the .edu environment, that's why I joked about it. I spent some time working at a university's IT shop, and I've decided it's for people that can't handle the real world :D

I will have to disagree about the ex-Prez... Although he 'acted' presidental, I believe he did great harm to this county... but that's another topic for another forum...

Who's to say? I don't know your life experiences, and you don't know mine.

> They always cry when I talk about voting for Ronald Regean, eating read meat, and the Right to Bear Arms. :)

Do you mean, Reagan? And RED meat? Sorry, you poked fun at my education, but we did learn to proofread.

> No, I don't speak Latin, but I can read enough to get by when absolutely necessary.

Hey, I'm impressed!

Not a big deal Thorn! Your first reply could have stated a fact, which you do have a point, but you choose to make it sound as though I was uneducated in the classics. Are you always this personable, or do you just enjoy making little 'digs' at people you don't have to face?

That was my point.

OK, so let's end it here. I made an observation, you responded with some questions. Those were answered. We could go back and forth like this a rather long time, but frankly it's hardly worth the time for either of us.

Yes, "Reagan" and "red". No question, I sometimes type too fast and proofread not enough; never claimed otherwise.

To answer your final question, I'm always this way, face to face or online.

Back to our regularly scheduled thread...

I was thinking about it, looked it up on google and got this:

Angco Inc, (407) 644-5858, 129 Robin Rd, Altamonte Springs, FL 32701

which eventually leads to this:

http://www.atssa.com/chapters/florida.htm

mabey someone is pissed at the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA)?

(btw: Altamonte Springs is about an hour from where I was driving.)

Hmmm.. .someone has a good sense of humor. I'd call from a payphone and ask how many calls they get out BJs. At the very least, let them know their humor is appreciated!

I'd have to vote that the #1 SSID I've seen so far...:D
