Someone else in Ak I can't beleive it. I didn't even believe there were that many wireless networks up here either... but man there are a lot. I did a drive the in Fbanks the other night and found over a hundred. Most not encrypted.

I like the ones out in the middle of nowhere, kinda funny. Or the ones over on University, the housing looks like it might fall down at any minute but they have quite a few networks. A friend of mine was staying at one of his friends place while his house was being built. He and his wife were in a yert in the back yard, and he had a wireless network connection to the main house! He said he could live without running water, but couldn't go back to dialup!

Yay! Alaskan stumblers! Valdez here. Found about 50APs, most no WEP. That was last summer though, I have yet to start this year.

It amazes me that the signals work through all the smoke up here. We've been upgradine out wireless links between the schools. Can't see the sun but we get a pretty good signal. I think our longest shot is around 26 miles. It's 5gig and a 4 foot dish on each side. We just put the dish on the powerplant at Eielson. It's like working in hell but hotter!! Nothing worse than huffing tools and stuff up 3 flights of stairs in 110 degree heat. The roof was nice though, good breeze, smoky, but much cooler!

You guys getting smoke up there? We've been pretty immune, but its getting to be real hazy. Got a lot of Fbanks, etc locals who are in town for the weekend to escape the smoke. :(

You can't see it right now but the building I work in is behind the yellow hotel that is in between the church and the dark brown building.

Yow! That's getting ugly. Good luck, and keep the sled dogs safe.
