DOH!

Ok, I am starting a new thread for this. I'll post an email to send info to me with. I'll help organize, but I *WILL* need others to help figure out what the hell we should actually DO. We CAN'T let those SOCALWUG folks show us up! :D

Colorado WUG Formation

I was volunteered (thanks WhiteFish. First round is on you! :D) to collect info and begin the process for forming a Wireless Users Group for those of us here in Colorado. I've done some looking and haven't found any indication that such a group already exists...if you know otherwise, PLEASE inform me so we won't have to reinvent the wheel (unless we want to.) So, here goes...

ATTENTION!!!
All those interested in forming and participating in a Wireless Users Group for the Colorado Region (primarily the Front Range, but we're not picky, all are welcome) please send an email to Jaffo@Adelphia.net with RMWUG in the subject.

The focus of this group would likely be 802.11(b), NetStumbling, and related topics, but not necessarily exclusive to those themes. So lemme know what you all think, and let's get some volunteers to help spearhead this thing (WhiteFish comes to mind....)

I've read forums on the site of something called Milehigh Wireless, which is focused on Denver but has people down in the Springs as well--but when I went back there just now to get the URL, it looks like the site has gone away.

If anyone here knows what the new site (if any) for Milehigh Wireless is, please post. The one I had that is no longer good is

http://www.milehighwireless.net

(I repeat: This is a BAD LINK...posted for info only!)

I wonder if your choice of an avatar may be scaring people off... :D

I will be moving to Colorado Springs this spring sometime, and if the group happens I'm sure I'll find you guys. Setting up an antenna shootout would be a fine first project.

I'll be in the Springs semi-permanently by Mid-April. Would love to meet other Wi-Fi crazies, especially people making their own antennas.

One interesting experiment would be to go up to the Shrine of the Sun and scan with a 15 dBi dish or something comparable, to see what it can reach from way up there.

Please keep us posted here on the forums as to the progress of the Colorado group's formation.

Wow, that is a great idea...I hadn't thought of it. We could try several places, actually...the 'overlook' in Palmer Park's bluffs, the hilltop at UCCS, Gold Camp Road. Let us know when you get up here and we'll plan an event. We really should try to formalize the WUG, but I've gotten no feedback on it.

Hello,

I am moving to 100th and Washington at the end of April.. I would love to meet / get together with other wireless peeps here in CO..

I am new to NetStumbler but somewhat familiar with wireless in general, have installed it a few times..

If anyone is interested in getting together please send an email, or if there is a group already started, I would love to join!

Calling Colorado Springs

I finally unpacked all my stumbling ghear after our big move here from Arizona, so what about gathering somewhere central, just to BS? I'm on the southwest side by Fort Carson, but nowhere is very far from anywhere else here, at least compared to Phoenix.

I'd suggest a Starbucks with a hotspot, but there are none here. So maybe just a Starbucks.

Jaffo, whitefish, Verticaltier? Any suggestions as to time and place? I'm pretty flexible.

I have some interesting ideas relating to antennas, wardriving methods, and this summer's WWWD. Time to start talking.

What say?

One suggestion I have is to start using meetup.com to arrange stumbler meetings in Colorado Springs, under the Wi-Fi topic. Here's the URL:

I know several WarDrivers in the Springs. You can hook up with some of them at the DC719 group (http://www.dc719.org/). Also, the DC719 group is organizing the Denver/Boulder/Springs area drive for the WWWD (http://www.worldwidewardrive.org/wwwd3/organizers.html).

I live in Grand Junction and did my first wardrive last night with a 5 dbi omni. Found 60 networks in three hours, with 51 being undiscovered yet on Wigle.net.

Perhaps we can meet up sometime, I will be trying to cover the Western Slope.
