have stumbled through very small segments of atl/decatur (tucker -> toco hills) and from just inside the perimeter to norcross/alpharetta (141/ptree corners circle);

results are surprising. lots of AP's -- so far, NONE are using WEP...

and this is in less than a 24 hour period...

Looking to get started very soon. What have you guys been using card-wise? Lucent/Prism 2? Any external antennas or just the cards themselves?

Has anyone had any luck with the Linux ws_lan kernel modules and airsnort?

since my first post, i've come across quite a few wide-open networks. i use a Lucent Orinoco Silver without the antenna (!)...i drove through Buckhead the other day and my laptop lit up like an x-mas tree. specifically, the Swissotel has quite a few different APs as do a few spots in the Perimeter area. my next project is with AirSnort; i'll post details when i'm done.

I did a stumble around Lenox mall area last night, came up with about 20 APs, many of them were the swisshotel and starbucks. But thats all i've done, although I did have a GPS. I'm only in town for a week or two, i'm going to hit downtown this week I think and take a look at things. I'm just driving past, not even trying to get an IP or anything, i'll send the scan files to anyone interested.

Welcome to the area. I have done a few runs up here North of you and located 15-20 APs. Interestingly enough all but 2-3 were not running WEP. I uploaded all my scans. I'd like to see yours.

I've been stumbling the Atl, Buckhead, Marietta/Cobb area for a couple of weeks now and have found over 260 access points. About fifty have had wep on. The most interesting unsecured APs were the ones in Gateway Computer stores and in Kroger supermarkets. Email me if you would like to trade lists.
