Well, I'm on the 8PM DJ slot for saturday night (Maytag).
I'll be dressed in either my Maytag uniform or my Verizon cabling one. And I wouldnt be too worried about the people there, the surrounding area is actually pretty friendly, during the daytime anyway. At night, I would travel lightly, and well defended :P

I've got a trip to New York City comming up and will be in the Broadway area for a few days. Any good wireless (Read Free) access points in the Broadway/Times Square area.

I will be taking my laptop and antenna of course...

Check out http://www.nycwireless.net. They have free APs in many areas of the city. The web site has maps.

Just wanna know how many stumblers there are in manhattan...

I live in Manhattan, and therefore don't drive...

I looked out the window at work today and saw one of those Gray Line double decker tour busses go buy and got an (oaky, obvious) idea. One weekend soon I think I might grab my gear and hop abourd the new Gray Line stumble-Manhattan-from-a-double-decker-bus tour. ;-)

what a great idea.. especially if you have a pocket pc. or an ultralight laptop. i wouldn't want to carry around a full sized laptop on the bus.

another NYC netstumbler. I'm in queens but i've had the most luck stumbling in manhattan. i think its just the sheer number of people that makes it easier.

i agree though a car isn't necessary but you do have to be creative. rooftops are a good place to start if you have a directional antenna.

Very cool...

Yeah ... I know about NYCWIRELESS ... in fact I know one of the founders.

Anyway ... I was just wondering if there were any existing groups that would make weekly or monthly drives around the city to look for APs.

I would be interested in creating a competition for finding the most APs in a given area -- like Manhattan..
