wohooo manhattan!

i just picked up a lappy and wifi card. no gps.

I'm in Stratford. I just started driving this weekend and have found 38 APs in the Stratford, Shelton, Milford, and Derby areas.
80% or more have no WEP, its ridiculous. Most are homes, but have found a few businesses. The construction trailers at the Sikorsky Bridge building site have a couple. I laughed as I went over that disaster they call a bridge. I'm using a simple setup of Pringles can, Truemobile 1150 and laptop.

Any other stumblers from jercey or nyc want to get together, share info?

I am trying to get wardrivers/stumblers/etc together in the area to form a group. AWUG Albany Wireless Users Group we are looking to have our first meeting May 14th if interested go to the site and head to the forums & you'll see the AWUG thread.

A few of us have been on some Wardrives already in the area and have found quite a few APs.
Some please head over to the site if interested.

Not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this but it's the first time i've posted here.......

Anyway, When wardriving i keep getting "airnet" showing up. i can't connect to it and the MAC is all 0's. It stays green for miles. Can anyone give me some info on this?

Well it sound like you are either:
A: Using un UNSUPPORTED CARD
B: Are using a Classic Lucent/Rebadge card and the "airnet" network is an AD-HOC Node, in which case this is a know NS Bug.

And of course the most obvious, WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO CONNECT TO A NETWORK THAT IS NOT YOURS????

The forum is for connecting with other stumblers in your area. As far as I can tell, your question has nothing to do with upstate NY, or other NS users in your area. But at least you acknowledged you didn't know what you are doing. Try posting according to topic. If your question was legitimate (which it is not, see below) then it should be in the NetStumbler.org Forums > NetStumbler Community > NetStumbler forum if using NS, or the NetStumbler.org Forums > NetStumbler Community > MiniStumbler if using MiniStumbler.

As MadHadder says, why are you even trying to connect? It is illegal to do so. Go back to the Welcome Desk and read the Rules, specifically #3.

3. Illegal Content/Misuse
"... refrain from making requests about accessing wireless networks that you are not authorized to use. ..."

We don't provide howtos for criminal actions.

Anyways I had stopped wardriving for a bit....about 8-9months i guess....and decided to look at wigle.net and see if anyone found anything more in my sparse area....

Welp someone has been busy and got about 2000+ more AP's(thats alot for this town heh)...

Sooo if any of you are out there wardriving around CNY, Syracuse or Upstate NY...PLEASE CHIME IN!

Oh hey thanks...thats awesome....i did a search for "syracuse" and that one didnt come up at all...i guess the search function doesnt look at attachments...

You're welcome. I just happened to remember that the the test map I'd made was in the area. The attachment is "no_syracuse" so it probably wouldn't show up unless you queried it with the "no_".
