I stumble the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania. I do it out of my car with my IBM 1300i series laptop with a built in IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Mini PC Card. I am going to config my GPS next weekend and finally put it on the laptop too. During the course of the last 14 days I have acquires 37 different AP's with no WEP on my lunchtime drives and too and from the offices.

I live a few miles north of Allentown, PA and have a clear elevated view of the city. Does anyone know of a design for an antenna that pickup from 5-8 miles?

Is barren as hell. Spent 3 hours in there looking for an AP, but no dice.

Oh well

Well, it's been 10 days since I posted that last and now am up to almost 225 WAP (90% no WEP) in the ABE area. Definitely not barren. I fact, I bought a ORINOCO gold card and it gets less reception than my build in IBM WAC, so the ORINOCO went back.

Oops, I thought you meant LV in general. I nailed two in the LVM. No WEP but the ESSID's were default and difficult to tell which shop they were coming from.

Drove down 78 past Atown...

Went for a drive last night.. Nothing at all along 78 from NJ out to Allentown. Swung down 309 to Quakertown and there were a ton with WEP enabled... Might swing by during the day when it wouldn't be conspicious to be sitting in a parking lot with airsnort...

Just picked up this mornings Sunday Philadelphia Inquirer and noticed a picture with a caption "This man may be tapping into your network" on the front page. Even the local media is picking up on this so watch out.

This may be the article.

I've gone driving down in the Oakland area and also in downtown Pittsburgh... There's TONS of AP's all over town.

If anybody wants to go stumbling sometime, let me know. I'm looking for a few others to do some exploration with.

Did some in Pittsburgh, did a random drive-by through areas I thought might have hotspots. Check-out the results at http://www.pghwireless.com.

I'd love to see your results, contact me if you'd like to join-up with some other people in Pittsburgh.
