Cool... That was the correct SSID obviously.
Now I just need to come up with a practical use for a mobile access point :)
I guess you could place an access point "somewhere" and then have clues for a Treasure Hunt / Road Rally thing.

For those who are wondering the SSID was:
"Hi_Sifter_The_Hunt_Is_On_see_ya"

Ahhh, Great Minds think alike... Even if I do say so myself!

"Hmmm, how about WarRallying? Download your instructions, via the start AP. The directions get you to the next AP. Repeat as needed... Meet for Beer, Pizza, Awards.

Geeks meet the SCCA."

You would place them in offices, houses, etc. Everybody knows somebody, so you could have lots of AP's spread out all over. In some areas you could even go with a mobile access point running off an inverter.
It would be a lot of work to get setup and coordinate everything but with enough people it could turn out to be fun.

Mobile AP southbound I-5 from WA --> CA Thursday night

The DigitalMDX will be driving south on I-5 Thursday night from Olympia, WA to the Bay Area. I'll have the mobile AP fired up and broadcasting it's SSID. I will also be scanning the FRS (Motorola TalkAbout type) frequencies... if you happen to pick me up with NetStumbler, give me a shout on the radio and say "Hey". I'll be leaving Olympia about 8:30PM... it would be cool to run into somebody out there...

See ya on the road...

You might want to rethink that statement. Not a good thing to want while your flying down the interstate :)

You're right... I'll rephrase that one...
"It would be cool to rear-end a cute chick out there..."
... Just kidding... how about... "hope to hear from somebody on the road..."
Later,
Jay

I wish my brother had a wardrive kit right now. He drove from Los Angeles to Olympia, Washington, now over to Idaho and he may be on the way to Colorado and possibly Atlanta. He'd pick up a ton of APs. Of course he's a fugitive form justice and he's running from the feds, but that don't mean he couldn't snag us some good wardriving fodder in the meantime.

hey Tacoma WA people or near, anyone host any wireless meetings or have wireless groups, I wanted to get a node up that would attach to seattle wireless, or maybe we can create our own "Tacoma Wireless" I'm fairly new on the topic, I'm no Guru but am experienced in networking, just not the wireless part. Respond here or email me at wifi@piercedesigns.com
thanks,
Mike

If you have a view of the mountains to the east, you can probably connect into seattle wireless within a couple of months.....or at least by this summer.
