TELFORD has some interesting APs around the industrial sectors
And mc donalds has openzone hmm

West Midlands here, not far down the road in Leominster :)

I'm suprised that for such a small town, a short 5 mile trip flagged up 60 APs, with about 50/50 WEP

So am I.

So far found 77 access points between the city and my house (even more if i'd remembered to put the laptop into always on mode tonight on my way home from work!) while warwalking/warbussing....

Plenty of mycloud, BTOpenZone, Subzone, ntuwirenet1 and Eurospot access points around, and channels 4,5, 8 and 12 are unused, and only i'm using channel 2!

WTraffic seams to broadcast around the tram stops, but with no GPS i can't confirm, certainly an interesting name!

Only 8 have default SSIDs, although there are some Linksys, Belkin54g and simalier that arn't under that category

West Bridgford way, i've already seen your maps. I'm surprised there is not more.

A war walk round uni will throw up a load, nearly everywhere i've been i've found 3 SSIDs, and in one case Windows XP2 couldn't display them all at once in the networks dialogue.

I'm about 40 mins away from London by train... there is a lot of networks around here. I noticed a suprising number when going down a suburb full of council houses (how come they can afford wireless APs AND somthing to connect to them with?!?), most of them WEP'd, a couple not WEP'd.

In the town, about a third were WEP'd, in the suburbs, abouot 70% of them were WEP'd.

Local net cafe has 3 wireless APs, one WEP'd, one MAC filtered and one public access.

MMmm anyway.

I've got to get my ride sorted out before I can do anything serious like. Has anyone tried wardriving on a bus? :D

For anyone who's interested, there is a massive free to use hotspot running providing service to most of the west end in London.
