I went on a short war drive yesterday with my new Sony Vaio picturebook w/ Orinoco gold card.

I found about 20 APs...some are quite funny. Only two had WEP. One was from a "real bagel" Bagel shop on St. Catherine street near Wood, and I was shocked that a bagel shop has a wireless network.

As well, in my dad's building on Decarie I found one called "Parasuco" like the jean company... :)

It amazes me that busineses keep these unlocked.

One was even clearly a tech or computer company by the name.

I intend to buy a Oronico Gold card and an adapter.

However, you say you have a "prism2" CF card.

Is this supported by "ministumbler"?

I believed only Hermes cards were supported.

Yea on Ministumbler only Hermes card are supported but Zaurus run on linux so he can run Kismet and Kismet support PRISM

I have never actually saved anything. 10,000 i don't think so, but over 1000 for sure.

I was thinking about going to the 2600 meeting tonight. I would like to see what that is all about.

What about you, involved in anything in and around montreal?

Hey guys, just dropping a note...

Been war driving in the west-island since march 2003, constantly picking a ton and a half of AP's here.

Noticed an encouraging trend in the last year though, when I first started wardriving, 99.5% of AP's were wide open, unprotected... but in the last year I see more and more AP's with WEP turned on... in my last stumble 2 weeks ago, I'd say about 60% of AP's were unprotected... it's a marked improvement.

Glad to see people are slowly getting smarter about wireless networking.

Pat

2600 meeting are quite boring... There is some people I know that go, so I have been going for like the past 6 month but I don't usually stay there for a long time... I passed last friday, but I did't stay for more than 15 minute...
I am somewhat involved with Iles sans fils, but I don't have mutch time to put in that these day...

If you want maybe we could do it together... I got some wifi equipement (Antenna) just don't have a car...
With 175 it seem the antenna you got is inside the car(aka in your laptop or wifi card), the car will block the wifi... you would get a mutch better result with External antenna...
