I needed to resize several hundred jpg so I did a little googling and came across this freebie. Photoresizer.

There are probably others as well but this one was simple to use and it worked so well I figured I'd give it a plug.

Always good to know. IrfanView works in a pinch for quick (photo) jobs as well.

Will have to try it, I use Irfanview now for converting which it does very well.
I take it you just tell this program what size you want the photo to be and then feed it a list of filenames?

I'll have to check out the Irfanview.

With Photoresizer you just drag your photos onto the Photoresizer executable.

The default size is 400 pix. If you want a different size you rename the executable to photoresizer200.exe or make another copy of the executable with a different size name. So you can have mulitple exe, each processing to a different size and it can be configured to resize by percentage.

I just liked the idea, I didn't have start the program and set a bunch of options to get things to happen.

Sounds pretty easy. I 'stuck' this thread since so many have issues with image size when posting, maybe it will help.

If only there was one that had the option

Resize, sample and save to 50K.

With Irfanview it's save as. Select quality. Right click on file check size. If it's too big, drop the quality more, save again. repeat. But for batch jobs it's great and has tons of options.

You can just about do that with this.

Knowing none of my photos are more than 5 megapix I setup an executable named "photoresize950.exe" (meaning resize to 950pixels) and just drag my photos to it.
None of the resized photos were over 50k. typical range was 45k-48k

Another good program I use is called "DeDuper" What it does is compare images and if it thinks it finds a match it will display both and let you decide if its a duplicate and delete the un-needed copy.

and its VERY fast... I did over 8000 images in about 1 minute on a 1.5 gig P4 with 512 meg 800 mhz rambus ram

If you've got Windows, the MS Image Resizer PowerToy is pretty good as well, it installs a right click option, has a few different standard size presets, as well as a custom option, has pretty good compression and excellent image quality.

Holy cow!

This thing is awesome. I'm doing a PP presentation and had to resize 60 photos. This saved me a lot of time and aggravation!

very interesting post, i believe lots of useful stuff there. question is, how much can a site be penalized on search rankings if all images have defined size attribute. My flower delivery site's audit gives me errors on picture size attributes missing.
