Make your own pigtail? RoamAbout

Hey everyone,

I know that the connector that goes into the card is propriatary but I'm surprised that people haven't found a way around that!

I guess two questions...

one, I've got a Enterasys RoamAbout card, I've read that it's just a rebadged orinoco silver card, is that right? So I need an Orinoco pigtail, right?

two, can't you make your own pigtail for this card? Does anyone know how to go about doing that?

Thanks

not really. most cards either use a proprietary pigtail (such as the orinocos and their clones). others use SMA, etc.
the enterasys card is indeed a rebadged orinoco, and as such, uses an orinoco pigtail.

It's not difficult, but you need the right crimping tools, as these things just don't go together with a pair of pliers. I make most of my own cables, but it isn't worth it to me to make the pigtails.

If you wish to make your own, you'll need a crimp tool (about $100USD) and the MC connectors ($5-6 ea), the N-male ($4-5) connector plus cable ($.025/ft.). Prices drop in bulk.

Of course, you could by in bulk, and then sell your own pigtails. But for one or two? Forget it, buy them.
