Newbie, help needed

Hey Guys,
So basically I need some help.
What I need to be able to do is go into a clients building and then work out whether an WAP will cover the entire area of the building or whether I will need additional WAP's.
Now from what I can read, I think NetStumbler can perform this operation for me.
I would however need a more sophisticated wireless network card in order for NetStumbler to work correctly. I'm currently using a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card.
Firstly am I correct in thinking that NetStumbler is capable of doing what I need?
And secondly, what is an appropriate card to use? Ive looked at the compatible lists but they all seem to be really dated.
Appreciate any help given.
Thanks...
