Fields in exported files?

In netstumbler 0.3.23, when you export to wi-scan with extensions there are four fields that are added to the standard wi-scan format. These fields are Name, Flags, Channelbits and BcnIntvl.

I know what Name and BcnIntvl are, but I am looking for information on decoding the Flags and Channelbits fields.

What are these for, and what do the individual bits mean?

If this is better suited for a different forum, the please direct me or move it.
Thanks.

A few have played around with the formats and have deciphered some of the meaning.. :) Hope it helps.

I'm not worried about the NS1 format. I'm specifically worried about the wi-scan summary with extensions, and what the Flags and Channel Bits are.

I believe that WEP encryption is part of the flags, but can't seem to find any relevant information on it.

sorry i dont remember offhand what bits are but you can find the definitions in the IEEE doc referenced in this thread:

thanks, but still not what I'm looking for. I don't need the 802.11 specs. This is more of a wi-scan format question.

In the export file, you have two fields:

Flags Channelbits
0011 0040
0002 0040
0015 0040
0001 0040
0011 0002
0021 0002

I am curious as to what these fields actually are, and what they relate to.

Like I've said before, if this needs to be moved, please let me know.

Thanks in Advance (again) :)

Thanks again.

sorry, i took a look at that IEEE doc again, and it's pretty hard to understand the relationship to the NS output...the section referenced in the FAQ is in a different document.

but i found the links to the info you wanted by typing "NS data format" into the search function of the forum ;)

Medic,
Please try searching. It has been discussed quite a few times. Hint: Go to the main site (not the forums) and click on "FAQ".

BTW, (to answer the next question that usually follows) to decode, use XOR. That should be in the thread lincomatic posted, too.

Thanks.. I just disregarded everything I read about NS1 files from my initial searches... Initially, I was under the impression that they had nothing to do with the wi-scan exports.

After re-reading the documents a couple of times, I've understood whats going on. Thanks again for your help, and I'll go away now.

look further back in the thread for the channelbits.

here is another flagbits definition:

One other note Medic ... As you can tell from the first link ... We have all had many discussions about the way that NS operates. Myself and a close friend sat around for numberous hours looking at freaking unicode and trying to disassemble NS so that we could all find ways to do what we wanted. If you read through that entire thread, you will see all the work that was put forth by many members, so when you come on and just want to be spoonfed the information, don't be surprised if you are told to hunt for your own food.

wi-scan with extensions

I have a related question about the two export formats. "wi-scan" and "wi-scan with extensions". Why do the GPS values change so much between the two formats?

I tried exporting the same file to both wi-scan format and wi-scan with extensions. And both those formats have differences in the lat. and long. values. Any clues?

Way to go, Houdini...hope you're not waiting for a response to a 2 year old thread.
