WHAT I was Asking before a bunch of idiots jumped in and started flaiming away was this. I want my parents to use my Cable modem Access....IS that illegal I dont know. THATS what my true use is............SO FOKING bash away....As for shear number of domains.........thats not the whole list.....I have domains for many different Things. Some controversial as is yours here.......Some perfectly fine in fields from offroading to ERP applications.

What is controvertial? Because it is called "wardriving?" Do some checking, and you see it it more of a historical reference than anything. You are only displaying a lack of knowledge if you think there is something sinister about the "war" in "wardriving."

As for sharing your Cable Modem access: It it likely a violation of your Cable provider's TOS. You would have to read it to be sure. However, that doesn't quite explain the need for a rotor if all you need it is a single Point-to-Point link.

BTW, there are manyl legitimate reasons for wardriving, aside from just the interest in it. Search around here, you will see that. You will also see that theft is highly discouraged.

I'm delighted that you have more domains. So why were you listing the ones above? Bragging or what?

Not bragging just the only ones Im gonna revieal to a bunch of hackers...........wich in reality what we all are. NOW the idea of a rotor is to aim it.......Im talking 1-2 Miles. AND yes I have Little to no knowledge in this arena Having been in IT up untill 2 years ago I do have networking knowledge just not wireless. MY idea is hopefully to be able to get a Linksys, netgear or Dlink Router. And a AP in client mode........Conect to Parabolic antenna and hook up a nice connection for them. Like I said CLUELESS when it comes to wireless it was just hitting the scene when I retired

OK... Then a rotor isn't needed.

I've aligned plenty of multi-mile links by hand. You just manually align two directional antennae. Search on PtP links. No different than lining up a sat dish, expect it is two ends. You just have to know your target coords.

And what Routers are easiest to Adapt to external Antennas (AND most relieable) Are the models that are more proprietary then others.....Are some more compatable then others.....Should I make sure to buy BOTH same manufacturer

It is very subjective. If the price range >$150 per unit, then go with Linksys or Dlink, although some hate them, as they are less reliable. More robust, adaptable, as well as pricey: ORiNOCO.

But check that TOS. If it is prohibited, then it is a Theft of Services.

ACtually its in court right now..........Provider claims having a router is illegal even....SO it is not yet proven rather there policy stands as of yet

Can I mix brands.........Linksys and Dlink or what have you.........And any perticular models easier??

Again, so it is subjective as it depends on the exact needs. Linksys WAP11s have removable antennae, so they are good for that reason. If you want router capability, then there are other models.

Usually, you cannot mix brands if you want to use a fixed client bridging mode.

You really need to learn the basics of wireless network design to even start with this. Next, you are going to need to compute whether you have LOS and what are your SOM requirements (look theses terms up), etc., etc., etc. There are half a dozen subjects you will need to cover.

Buy a copy of Jeff Duntemann's Drive-by WiFi Guide. It is the best book for absolute newbies.

BTW, I could care less about what a court might decide in regards to these types of things. Many times court cases are specific to the parties and no one else. Before I retired from my previous job, I use to arrest all sorts of street lawyers who all told me how wrong I was based on future court rulings. Most are still residing at the State's expense.

If you signed a TOS and you violate it, you could end up charged with Theft of Service. Don't run the risk based on what a court may decide. The court may decide against you.

before I actually impliment I was waiting for the ruling to come down and see if it was specific to that case only and so on. BUT I also know I have allot to learn And would take some time doing so

When I had a cable modem they would allow up to eight connections. I would stick with like branded equipment just to be sure. I havn't really played around with long distance connections. I have to have my dish 40' up a pole just to get it above tree level to get a good signal, I sure as hell ain't going up there for a hobby...
