Version History? Problems with .30?

OK, I have 0.3.23.1 and had been using it for a long time. Works great with my OG Orinoco Gold.
It was an Extract and Run download.

I downloaded 0.3.30.1 and it has an Installer. I installed it and ran it and let it run for about 2/3 of my drive home today. Not a single Peep. At a long light I killed 30 and ran 23 from the old download area and WHAM, found 3 APs on the same corner. XP Connected to some Cell Phone Store's Open AP and I killed 23. I launched 30 again and it found the Cell phone store, but not the other 2 APs 23 had just found. Left 30 on for the rest of the drive home and found jack.

So my questions are, where can I find a Revision history for NS to see if this is explained already (this web site is a maze).
And does anyone know whats going on?

Thx
-Casper

PS:
1) I tried both Orinoco and NDIS Modes
2) Device Manager says driver is:
Agere Systems
12/19/2001
7.42.0.300

If I had to guess, your problem lies here.....

XP Connected to some Cell Phone Store's Open AP

You need to turn off the XP client manager, you can't associate and stumble at the same time effectively.

Turn off (all) the client managers and try again, otherwise your findings are fallible.

How do you turn off the XP Client Manager?

And why did this change? It works fine in version 23, its only 30 for me anyway that has the problem.

It almost seems as if NS 30 will only stumble things XP has already connected to.

In the wireless settings for the adapter you need to turn off the 'Let windows configure my network settings' button. Then it will generally work.

Thanks for the link.

Yes, I found and fixed the bug that you have all been complaining about. If you have all of the following...
An ORiNOCO card
NetStumbler version 0.3.30
"Auto Reconfigure" switched on
... then the following sequence of events is likely to occur:
You eventually associate with an access point while you're scanning.
You go out of range, or in better range of a different AP.
"Auto reconfigure" kicks in to disassociate you (otherwise "get AP names" won't work)
In reconfiguring the card, it inadvertently puts it into a state where it will not discover any access points at all.
This has been fixed in version 0.4 (coming soon!)

renderman, thanks for the info.

"Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is on. I'll try turning it off the next time i'm stumbling. Thanks.
