Hmmm, seems like you have 3 days to search the board. In case you can't find it click here :) Don't worry, all your answers lie here.

*NOTE: Do not despair, with searching you will educate yourself :)

If it's hard going...

here's some tips or maybe just one, I don't know how much I want to type.

Firstly, if you want to crack WEP you can't use an Orinoco card. You need a Prisim based one and 5 - 10 gigs of free RAM or HD.

If you do get an Orinoco one a silver can be hacked into having higher encryption capabilities (basically it will become a gold card). You'll have to search out how to do that though, there's loads on it.

You can use a orinoco gold card to crack wep. Run linux with airsnort. Airsnort has orinoco support, you have to use the patched pcmcia_cs drivers.

Exactly what I was thinking....

The Barriers are breaking down but here is the basics...

For Ease of Sniffing/Stumbling/Setup under linux...
a Prism2 Based Card is easiest. Kismet, Wellenreiter, ethereal, airsnort all work with them just fine and the actual install process under a semi recent kernel is no problem.

Wep Cracking... if you can sniff with the card, then running the dump through wepcrack is no problem... for a more automated approach a prism card is required. In this case, either will work... lucent is just more steps...

Many people have Lucents running and workign just fine under linux... I wish I was one of them... I have had nothing but hassels and no idea why its such an issue...

My prism works fine with Kismet, though I cant seem to get Wellenreiter working yet... biggest complain is almost no Prism cards have external Ant Jacks...
