I have a new PC with a belkin F5D700 Pci card and a belkin f5d7630-4 adsl modem / router.

From time to time I get a situation where the card finds the router and obtains an IP adress. However, I can neither get to the router's homepage or connect to the internet.

If I try random combinations of repairing the connection and enabling/disabling WZC I eventually connect.

Whilst all this is going on, I can still connect with my old PC and USB wireless adaptor.

Any ideas?

Matt

What is this IP you are obtaining (is it an IP you are expecting to see)?

Are you getting a "Gateway" IP (is it an IP you are expecting to see)?

Since when did the NS forums become the Belkin support site ?
Read ALL the posts in the Welcome Desk section, especially the thread regarding problems with your hardware.

Wireless card not picking up network

PostPosted: Thu Feb 02, 2006 6:12 am

Hi all

If anyone can help me with this problem I would really appreciate it.

I have a working Ethernet connection, but for some "home re-organisation"
reasons, I need a wireless connection in the near future. So I got a Belkin router and wireless G desktop network card (FD57001).

I put everything in place, carefully following the manufacturer's installation instructions as I did so, and without any big problem everything worked first time. If I didn't specifically disable one of the two adapters, I could even have
both cable and wifi connections active at the same time.
That lasted about a week, after which the wireless card seemed to just stop
seeing the network.
I have had to go back to relying on the cable connection to my router which gives me internet access. It also allows me to check the router config which looks fine.
But my wifi card is not picking up anything - neither my network, nor my
neighbour's which I could see previously.
I had WEP-128 enabled on my router, but I disabled it.
I am using W2K, and Norton Internet Security. I tried disabling NIS but it
didn't change much.
Also - the Belkin wireless config utility has a diagnostic tool which tells
me that the card is working fine. The windows device manager tells me that
too.
It is as if some background process is messing with the wifi card, but what is
it...???

Should Windows wireless config service be running or not?
(For extra info I have added the reply to an ipconfig command below...)

any ideas?
thanks in advance

WLAN USB dongle

I have a wireless USB dongle manufactured by Gigafast, apparently with a Atmel chip. My MAC address is 00-90-47-00-28-D3. I am using WE741_Driver. Is WE741 the exact model name?

I have several questions.

1) If I use it with Win98, everything seems to be OK. However with Win XP I often get "request timed out" while using the ping command. In this way more than 10-15% is lost. Does anyone have a similar problem?

2) Under Win98 there appears this WLAN Utility in the systemn tray. However under Win XP it does not. Nor can I find it anywhere on the disk, alhough I had made a full install (application and drivers). Where is that damn thing? ;)
3) Also, did anyone get it to work with NetStumbler? How do I go about it?

4) And last but not least, did you manage to use this USB dongle with Linux? Being a Linux newbie, I woluld need a detailed description on how to set it up.

Can anyone help on this?

Yep, still called Netstumbler.org not Gigafast techsupport.

Ever consider asking the manufacturer what the problem is with their devices?

Are you really that freaking clueless? If you are not setting up someone else, this post is proof that some people shouldn't be allowed on the Internet.

Oh well, too late now. I'm sure the spiders already have it, as there are about 90 of them on right now.

I've not used the device, but it sounds like the driver is not stable under XP, or you have loaded the wrong driver. You should contect Gigafast for tech support.

It may use an XP NDIS 5.1 driver. Again, Gigafast tech support could best answer this question.
Robinson74 wrote:3) Also, did anyone get it to work with NetStumbler? How do I go about it?
Hey! A NetStumbler question! One out of four ain't bad...

Basically, this is an RTFM question, as this is answered in the README/Help file and the FAQs here. Short answer: It will NOT work under Win98. Period. It MAY work under XP if you use the aforementioned NDIS 5.1 driver.

Robinson74 wrote:4) And last but not least, did you manage to use this USB dongle with Linux? Being a Linux newbie, I woluld need a detailed description on how to set it up.
And for that, you would need to consult a Linux Forum for exact details.

Do some basic research: Googling "Gigafast Linux" bring 63000 hits, many of which seem to go into excruciating detail about installing Gigafast devices. Googling "Gigafast Linux WE741" brings forth 76 hits alone. One of them should point you in the right direction.

Is this a Netstumbler question or just a general WiFi question?

Sure, go to the command line and type
Code: Select all
iwpriv
. That should tell us if your system has the correct drivers. Let us know how that works out and we'll go from there.

Aside from not providing enough information to help you, you think this is a general WIFI help website. It is not, this is the support forums for NetStumbler and MiniStumbler.

I would suggest Google, or God forbid Netgears website.
