Favorite WIFI spot

I am sure we all have our favorite wifi spot (other than our home) like a coffee house, bar etc..

How about we list the ones we as law abiding wardrivers have verified as free legal hot spots with a brief description, location (both in address and GPS )?

Did some searching on these places just in my city and the list is very much out of date not to mention that its very vague.

possibly an online db here or on COWF?

I can do something like that. It isn't a big deal to write a quickie database for that information.

Let me know what fields you'd like to have populated in the database and I'll put it together.

My suggestion for fields:
Establishmentname : I.E. Bill's Coffee and Cake shop
Address : Selfexplanatory
City : Selfexplanatory
Country : Selfexplanatory
Establishmenttype : Coffeshop, Bar, Restaurant, etc
GPS lat : Gps lat in Decimal
GPS lon : Gps lon in Decimal
Comment : Free text for info on such things as using encryption, favourite beverage served, goodlooking waitresses, etc etc.

No need for SSID imho, as people should ask for it in the establishment.

Dutch typed faster than me on those requirements

and yeah.. are the waitresses cute.

:D

Can be useful for you travel techs if you know in advance about connections.
What got me started on this was when Beakmyn came to Houston, he had researched hotels near where his job had him for internet and wifi. He did find a place that took care of both needs (and allowed him to upload that huge amount of AP's he got when I gave him the "fiddy cent" tour of Houston, Galveston etc.)

As we find more legit free wifi spots we can populate them in

You need to type faster.. ;)

Connection speeds would be a redundant field IMHO.. Who cares if you are connected with 11 mb/s or 54 mb/s while enjoying your double-chocolate-mocha-latte-with-a-lemon-twist? The internet pipe they are having will normally be in the standard DSL speed ranges anyhow.

The pricing range, is that of the beverages/foods, or of the price for using the hotspot ? I mean do we want it to be a combined restaurant/cafe priceguide ? A better field to add would be a boolean for Free when purchasing beverages or food/Additional charges for Internet usages. The latter would be when the Hotspot in the establishment would be operated by something like T-mobile, Telia Homerun or other hotspot operators like that.

Knowing the crowd here, it'll not be PDF's of the menu, but jpegs of the waitresses that get uploaded. Especially if Hooters got WiFi for the patrons... :D

Let's just say that she is definitely violating the FCC regs for Point-to-Point connections, and leave it at that...
