And, apparently, physical destruction was necessary? I'm sure sure removing the source of power and confescating the device was more than an adequate measure. I view the post above as nothing more than an attempt to seek attention through the telling of a "right in the faces!" story. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to discover the post/story is a complete work of fiction.

Sure, why not, as it sends a clear message that this type of activity will not be tolerated. Some people just need a kick in the ass instead of coddling.

I've thrown network cards at people already, and that is not fiction.

I assure you, having security escort them from the building in light of their immediate termination is plenty 'a kick, and by no means a form of coddling. I predict you will one day become a headliner: "Employee sues as network card thrown at them takes out eye."

I recently discovered a rouge AP in one of our buildings connected to a DSL-router that is used for visiting consultants. Across the hallway from it two young clerks from another department had private laptops on their desks. I asked them if they knew anything about that AP. They denied that so I just unplugged it and took it with me.

Fired it up back at the IT-dept, checked the logs (default configurated, password and everything) noted the MAC-adresses and visited URL´s, mostly p0rn and P2P.... Went back and checked the MAC-adress on their laptops, off course it matched. Asked them again, still no response so then I just smashed it right in front of them and put the remains in a bin. The looks on their faces!
Damn that felt good. Does that make me bad?

Yes it makes you a bad admin, you had evidence their laptops were visiting sites not allowed on company property, You could have collected their laptops for "forensics" then gone thru it for more info to cost them their job. And if the laptops were personal units that were allowed on the network, you do have the right to remove any and all info pertaining to company info.
I have done so in the past at other jobs and including FDISK/FORMAT/RE-INstall

Yes, maybe I should have. But at the time I settled for just wrecking the AP.:o
